UMJC* – Defining Messianic Judaism *Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations
As a havurah (small group) of Kehilat Ariel Messianic Jewish Synagogue, (kehilatariel.org), K.A. Yuma Havurah operates under the direction of our Rabbi, Barney Kasdan, and by proxy, the UMJC. As such, we subscribe to the following definition of Messianic Judaism:
What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist, or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage!
What makes the sphinx the seventh wonder?
What makes the dawn come up like thunder?
What makes the Hottentot so hot? What puts the “ape” in apricot? What have they got that I ain’t got?”
-Wizard of Oz “Lord, help my unbelief!”* cries the man who needs God. Sometimes people struggle with trust issues. When we put our trust in the Lion of Judah, He does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. How about you? In whom/what are you placing your trust?
Once in awhile I just have to tell it; our havurah tonight was exceptional. The time of prayer, the commaraderie, the study, the questions & comments, the love, the warmth, the connectedness, the transparency, the humor (ya gots-ta have humor), the tears, and the noshing. All of it, amazing.
Nothing beats being oneself with a group of people who are being themselves with no pretense or effort. That’s real, that’s real love. That’s Yeshua, the one who redeems us.
